OUR MINISTRY TEAM
Our goal is to grow the Church in the Christchurch Diocese by bringing the youth and young adult ministry vision of Bishop Michael Gielen to life and serving the parishes and communities of the Diocese.
This includes our four pillars of the Catholic Schools Youth Ministry International programme, our Diocesan Camps, our other events like Diocesan Youth Masses and Encounter Nights as well as working with other Youth Ministry organisations. Underpinning those pillars is our cornerstone of Supporting Youth Ministry and Youth Ministers whereever they are in the Diocese and in whatever way we can.
We call youth leaders, young people and families into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church through personal communication, events, initiatives, and resources.

Diocesan Youth Ministry co-ordinator
The Diocesan Youth Ministry co-ordinator role has oversight of the work of the Catholic Youth Team and is responsible for the implementation of the pillars and cornerstone mentioned above.
He is also the first port of call for anyone wanting to get in touch about anything that CYT is doing in our communities.
Mark joined the Diocesan team in November 2020. Born and bred in Dunedin, he comes to the role after a decades involvement in Youth Ministry in various capacities. Outside work, he loves to get involved in all sorts of sport – primarily refereeing Football – and is a loud and proud supporter of anything in blue and gold.

Hannah Chapman
Diocesan Youth Minister
Integral to this role is supporting the rollout of the CSYMI programme in our Catholic Colleges. It does this by planning retreats and other experiences, working with and training leaders as well as being present wherever Young People are – including helping deliver all our CYT events.
Hannah joined the Diocesan team in January 2026. Originally from Rotorua, Hannah has completed a BA in Psychology from the University of Canterbury – while also working In Youth Ministry at Christ the Redeemer Parish.
