Our ministry Team
The Catholic Youth Team (CYT) assists the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Christchurch to share the Gospel with Young People, drawing them into the Church’s Sacramental Life, preparing, and empowering them for Mission as Disciples of Jesus Christ.
Who do we serve?
CYT is a ministry to the young people of the Diocese of Christchurch and serves on behalf of the Bishop of Christchurch. We exist to serve the Bishop, the Catholic Communities of Christchurch (Parishes and Schools) and of course our Young People and their Families / Whanau.
James is originally from Australia. He completed a Bachelor of Environmental Science and worked in retail management before feeling called to youth ministry. James has over 18 years in Youth Ministry, working as part of a a retreat team (NET Australia), Diocesan Youth Coordinator (Toowoomba Australia) and in Parish Youth Ministry (Queensland and Christchurch). He holds a graduate certificate in Youth Ministry from BBI in Australia.

Parish Coordinator & Mission Team Supervisor
Delbert is a graduate of Mission Team 2013 and helped set up the flourishing St Teresa’s Youth Group. He filled the role of Music Coordinator at CYT in 2014 and returned in 2016 as the Parish Coordinator. He is a worship leader, is on the leadership team for EXALT Music Ministry and attended Ignite Youth Ministry Conference in Brisbane.
Delbert supports the men on Mission Team pastorally as well as supervising the team on retreats. He has a passion for seeing youth ministry grow in parishes, connecting in with people and promoting events and the Lord through media.

Music Ministry Coordinator
Sam is a Christchurch local with many years of ministry experience including time with CYT and Tertiary Chaplaincy. She holds a BA in Psychology, Certificate in Youth Ministry and Diploma in Urban Mission Studies. Sam has been very involved and passionate about the music side of the ministry throughout her years in Ministry and in the past has been part of the CYT music team as well as many other music ministry teams.

Events Coordinator & Admin Support
Carmela is from Auckland and has a Degree in Fine Arts through the University of Auckland (Elam). She has extensive experience in youth ministry and event planning through her leadership in serving for the family ministry of CFC Youth for Christ. She is a Catholic speaker and creative with a heart for women, relational ministry, creative arts and delving deep in the mystery of the sacraments. She is passionate about pointing to the truth, goodness and beauty found in ourselves, our relationships and our gifts, by seeing God as the centre of it all.

Formation and Young Adult Coordinator & Mission Team Supervisor
Sinead joined the Catholic Youth Team in 2014. She has a Degree in Theology and a Masters in Pastoral Care. She has a wealth of experience in the areas of parish support, youth & young adult formation programmes, coordinating diocese events, and providing pastoral care to young people. Sinead is passionate about creating opportunities for young people to encounter and maintain a relationship with the Lord.

Mission Team Coordinator
Talia holds a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) from Waikato University and has been teaching for a number of years. She is from Waihi, a small town in the North Island, and has had the privilege of living, working and travelling to numerous places in NZ. Talia is a facilitator for Loving For Life and is a graduate of the 2017 Mission Team.

Fr Edwin Colaco is CYT’s chaplain. He is a Salesian priest and has worked with young people for nearly 25 years. Fr Edwin has been a youth director in many parishes and the delegate at a national level for Salesian Youth, and has conducted various formation programmes for youth as well as formed youth groups in various parishes.
